Angela Young Smucker has been praised for her "rich, secure mezzo-soprano" by the Chicago Tribune and her "show-stopping" voice by The St. Paul Pioneer Press. Her performances in oratorio, concert, and stage works have taken her throughout the United States and Europe.
Highlights of the 2011-12 season include the premiere performance of Chicago’s new “period” opera organization, The Haymarket Opera Company, in Handel’s chamber opera Aci, Galatea e Polifemo singing the role of Galatea; Mozart’s Requiem (the Robert Levin completion) and Bach’s St. John Passion with the Bach Colleguium San Diego; performances and a recording of Samuel Barber’s choral works with Conspirare; a debut appearance with the Newberry Consort; and performances of Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Duruflé's Requiem, and Puccini’s Suor Angelica (La zia Principessa).
